    Description

This increasingly hard-to-find token (medal, fob, drop) dates to the Spanish-American War era.  It was listed by token authority Russell Rulau as NON 3, and he dated the token to 1898.  [NOTE:  Site regulations prevent use of the name of the Caribbean Island on this item.]  One side has an image of the C. flag, with the words
    C. MUST BE FREE
.  The other side has a detailed image of the battleship
    U. S. S. Maine
, with the well-known rallying cry
    REMEMBER THE MAINE
.  This token was issued with a hole for use as a fob or drop (part of an event badge).  It was struck very well - with bold, detailed images and bold lettering.  The diameter is approximately 19 mm (3/4"), and the composition is brass.
This attractive token is in very fine condition, with light wear, signs of handling, and toning, and it is bright.
The illustrations in this listing are photos of the actual item being offered for sale, serving as part of the description.  NOTE:  The actual token is lighter in color and brighter than in the photos.
