Description
PLEASE NOTE THAT THE WORDS, DHINC EBAY WATERMARK ARE NOT ON THE ITEM ITSELFYou are bidding on an original LARGE cabinet photo of a man, a soldier in uniform. The collars state, U S V, United States Volunteers, and you can see part of the insignias which look like infantry, but I cannot say for sure. It is not dated but I would date it from the 1898-99 era because, according to the internet, the USV was used prior to 1903, and the 2 wars prior to that year were the Spanish American War and the Philippine American wars, 1898 and 1899. The cabinet card measures approx. 14” x 11” and the image measures approx. 9 3/8” x 7 3/8”. On the cabinet card, there are some losses at the corners, moderate+ layering and rounding at the corners, more so at the lower left corner, areas of thin losses along the edges, darkening and dull scratching along the borders, some spotting and other wear consistent with age. On the back of the cabinet card, there is similar wear at the edges, darkening , spotting and dull scratching. The photo has wear along the edges and corners, areas of scratching and scuffs, one, in the lower left quarter being deeper, but it is small, and other wear, however, the image is nice and clear.
